Methodology
Every price is read in US dollars from a source we name, with the date we read it. We re-read prices every month and log every change. No commission changes the order of apps.
Where prices come from
We use these sources in this order.
- A written price list from the vendor, shown as "confirmed by vendor" with its date.
- The app's own public pricing page, read from a US connection, because checkout prices differ by country.
- The App Store or Google Play list of in-app purchases.
- A saved copy of the app's page made by hand, when the page cannot be read automatically.
We never convert currencies or estimate a price. A price we could not read is not shown.
Apps are compared within their kind
We sort apps into three groups and compare prices inside each group. Companion and friend apps are built for everyday chat. Character role-play apps let you talk to many characters. 18+ AI girlfriend apps add picture generation and are for adults only. Tables that mix groups show the group in its own column.
Facts other than prices
Free plan limits, bonuses, payment options and terms are kept one fact per row, each with its source and the date we read it. A fact without a source or a date is not shown. All of them are in facts.csv.
Official websites
We take an app's official domain from the developer link on its App Store US listing. Without a listing, we use the domain whose own terms name the company behind the app. The result and the look-alikes we found are on the official websites page.
How often
We re-read every app's prices once a month and whenever we see a change. Each table shows the date its prices were read. When a price changes, we update the row and its date in plans.csv.
Credits and tokens
Many apps sell credits or tokens for messages, images or voice. We copy what the app says one action costs and what a plan includes, and we say so when the app does not state it.
How apps are ordered
Lists of apps are in alphabetical order. Tables that compare prices start with the lowest price per month. Commission is not a factor.
What every app page tells you
- The price you pay after any free trial, and how often you are billed. Until we have checked a US checkout for taxes and fees, we label it "plan price", not "total".
- What the trial turns into, when it renews and how to cancel.
- Store ratings, always with the number of ratings, the store and the date. We never rank apps by rating alone.
What we do not rate
We don't rate chat quality, memory or images. We report facts the vendor publishes and say where they come from. Screenshots are taken on free accounts.
We publish no explicit text or images. Whether an app allows adult content is stated as a fact.
Open data
All prices are in plans.csv and plans.json, app facts in apps.csv and facts.csv, under CC BY 4.0, and a summary for AI assistants is in llms.txt. Please link the page when you cite a price.
